Cape Coral woman with unbuckled children arrested for fleeing police and crashing

A woman was arrested after being accused of driving away from an officer during a traffic stop and then crashing while unbuckled children were in the car in Cape Coral Thursday morning.

Cape Coral officers say they saw Royteshia Denson, 32, outside of Island Coast High School just after 7 a.m. dropping off two kids in the roadway.

The officer motioned for Denson to pull over to the side of the road before he approached the car.

The officer told Denson she could not drop children off in the roadway, before noticing four young children in the back seat without seatbelts or restraints.

Denson was told she could not go anywhere without proper child restraints.

Police say Denson told the officer, “I don’t have time for this,” before putting the car into drive and leaving.

Officers say Denson drove east on Navarra Parkway at a fast rate of speed before attempting a right turn on Garden Boulevard.

Denson reportedly went over the grass on the corner, and as she was turning, she hit a vehicle waiting at a stop sign in the opposite lane.

Denson was arrested and taken to the Lee County Jail, where she is facing one charge of fleeing from police.

Reports say Denson also received citations for the four children without seatbelts.

CCPD says a charge of child neglect is also pending.
