Car lands in ditch after serious crash in Fort Lauderdale

Authorities in Fort Lauderdale responded to a serious crash early Sunday morning.

It happened at after 3:30 a.m. just east of I-95 and north of Commercial Boulevard, near the intersection of Northeast 14th Avenue and 62nd Street.

A car appeared to jump over a sidewalk, crash into side barriers and hit a pole before landing in a ditch.

According to Fort Lauderdale police, officers located what they described as a “felony vehicle” along the 1400 block of Northeast 62nd Street, but the man behind the wheel took off when they arrived.

During the chase, police said the driver lost control of the vehicle and slammed into the concrete pole.

There were three people, including the driver, inside the vehicle at the time of the crash, according to authorities.

All three were taken to North Broward Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

No other injuries were reported due to the single-vehicle crash.

Police took the driver into custody, but have yet to identify him or provide information on why the vehicle was being sought by authorities, other than that it came from Hendry County.

A crew from Florida Power and Light was observed at the scene. Authorities have not indicated whether anyone lost power as a result of the crash.
