A cement truck fell off the northbound Turnpike into a canal in Boca Raton, prompting a rescue mission and leaving the driver with serious injuries.
The Palm Beach County Fire Rescue (PBCFR) said that they were called to a crash near Exit 75, Glades Road, on the northbound Turnpike on Thursday morning at 6:22 a.m.
When PBCFR arrived, they reported finding a cement truck that had veered off the road and into a nearby canal, with the rear axle visible but the front end completely submerged in five to ten feet of water.
According to the report, PBCFR deployed level two divers equipped with SCUBA gear, who were in the water within three minutes of arriving at the scene.
PBCFR said that a search of the vehicle and its surroundings revealed that one person was found in the truck and transported to the nearest trauma center as a trauma alert.
The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
