A chain-reaction crash Saturday morning on Interstate 75 in Sumter County involved eight vehicles and sent four people to the hospital, according to a Florida Highway Patrol crash report.

Troopers said the crash occurred on northbound I-75 near mile marker 335 in an unincorporated area of the county.

The report lists clear weather and a dry roadway.

According to the report, traffic slowed and vehicles ahead came to a stop in the inside lane. Investigators said Vehicle 1 failed to slow and rear-ended Vehicle 2, then struck Vehicle 3, pushing it into Vehicle 4 and triggering additional rear-end collisions involving Vehicles 5, 6 and 7. The report says Vehicle 2 was pushed onto the inside shoulder, struck the guardrail and later collided with Vehicle 8, which had moved onto the shoulder to avoid the stopped traffic.

Four people were transported by Sumter County Fire/EMS to Ocala Regional Hospital, the report says. Injuries ranged from possible to incapacitating.

The report says a careless driving citation was issued to the driver of Vehicle 1.
