One person is dead after a crash in Charlotte County on Tuesday night.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, 47-year-old Brian Arce rammed into a 23-year-old skateboarder from Port Charlotte. Troopers say the skateboarder was in the bike lane when the front of the Arce’s sedan hit him.

Official reports go on to say that Arce got out of the car to survey the damage before getting back inside and fleeing. Law enforcement eventually caught up to him at the 7/11 on Tamiami in Punta Gorda.
