A child was airlifted to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital after jumping from a moving car on Highway 98 in Franklin County on Wednesday morning.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the 7-year-old, who was riding in the back seat, unbuckled herself, climbed into the front passenger seat and tried to roll down the window. After her mother rolled it back up, troopers said the child opened the passenger door and jumped from the vehicle as it traveled about 55 mph, hitting the pavement.
Authorities said the mother stopped immediately and bystanders called 911. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin County EMS, Florida Fish and Wildlife, and volunteer fire rescue assisted on scene.
Troopers said the child suffered critical injuries; her condition has not been released.
