Clay County Sheriff’s Office seeks help finding hit-and-run driver in Middleburg minibike crash

Clay County detectives are asking for the public’s help identifying a driver who struck a 20-year-old riding a minibike and fled the scene in Middleburg.

The hit-and-run occurred Sept. 13 between 3:30 and 3:40 p.m. at the intersection of J. Mark Lane and Nolan Road. The victim was riding a minibike when a suspect vehicle — described as a red sedan, possibly a Toyota Camry — struck him as he attempted to pass.

After the collision, the suspect got out of the car and asked the victim if he was faking his injuries. When the victim responded, the suspect returned to the vehicle and fled southbound on Nolan Road toward County Road 218.

The victim was left with severe injuries.

Detectives have been canvassing the area for surveillance cameras but have not yet located any footage. The suspect vehicle is believed to have significant damage to the passenger-side front bumper.

The suspect is described as a white male in his mid-40s with a heavy build and glasses.
