A Clearwater father has died after a swimming incident Friday evening, police said.
The Clearwater Police Department said Rigoberto Romero, 49, of Clearwater and his son were both near the jetty along South Gulfview Boulevard when they began struggling in the water.
Police said they responded to the water rescue call at about 7 p.m.
Bystanders helped pull the pair out of the water, and officers treated the the father on-scene.
According to police, Romero and his son were taken to Morton Plant Hospital where he died. However, his son is expected to be ok.
