A Clearwater man was accused of trying to set his wife’s home on fire with his stepdaughters inside on Sunday.
N H-D, 35, got into an argument with his wife outside the mobile home in a neighborhood on Gulf-to-Bay Blvd., according to a Clearwater police arrest report.
H was accused of grabbing a red gas can, pouring gas on the concrete next to the home and igniting it with a lighter. A neighbor told police they saw him pour gas on the home itself.
One of H’s two stepdaughters, who were inside the home, called the police. Water was poured on the flames to extinguish them.
H was accused of leaving the area with a friend. Officers said he told them that he was filling a pressure washer with gas while smoking a cigarette, and ash from the cigarette caused the gas to ignite.
He was charged with attempted first-degree arson and is being held on a $150,000 bond at the Pinellas County Jail.
