Coast Guard investigating airboat crash south of Arcadia

The US Coast Guard is investigating an airboat crash south of Arcadia that happened Tuesday afternoon.

The Desoto County Sheriff’s Office said it was near a boat ramp, on the Peace River.

FOX 4’s Hunter Walterman spoke with a woman who was on the boat when the crash happened.

Kaitlynn Wright said she was on an airboat with several people, including her mother and sister. They were headed to a ramp near the Nav-A-Gator Bar and Grill when another boat hit them, Wright said.

“We were coming around the corner, we were already, like, really on the side,” Wright said.

Wright said the other boat didn’t try to slow down or change direction. Wright said her boat tried to move out of the way, but was still hit.

Several people were injured in the crash, Wright said. Her mother went to the hospital with broken ribs. Wright said her friend was badly bruised.

A woman in the other boat was life-flighted, Wright said.

“So we were trying to move out of the way, like I was saying. And they just kept coming,” Wright said. “It was really bad.”

The crash happened around 4:00 p.m. near the Deep Creek Park Public Boat Ramp, Wright said.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said it also responded to the crash.
