A couple was arrested at Miami International Airport on Sunday after they tried to force their way onto a plane and attacked staff, deputies said.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the two passengers were late for their flight to Mexico.
Deputies said the two also got into an altercation with staff at the airport and even threw coffee into an employee’s face.
Video shows several police units on the tarmac next to American Flight 2494 minutes before take off. About six MDSO deputies responded to the altercation.
The couple were identified as R S-N and B R D CM.
S-N was charged with resisting an officer without violence, and trespassing, while M was charged with two counts of battery and trespassing.
A spokesperson for MIA told NBC6 MDSO is handling the investigation but confirmed the employee involved in the coffee incident was an American Airlines employee.
In a statement, the airline said: “Prior to boarding American Airlines flight 2494from Miami (MIA) to Cancun (CUN), law enforcement responded to the gate for two disruptive customers. Acts of violence are not tolerated by American Airlines and we are committed to working closely with law enforcement in their investigation.”
