A crane operated by a private contractor working on the beach Wednesday toppled over sending its operator to the hospital, beach officials said.

The accident occurred behind the Towers Grande Condominiums at 2055 S. Atlantic Ave. after 5 p.m. in Daytona Beach Shores, said Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue Capt. Alex Miller on Thursday.

The crane was not moving when it tipped over, Miller said.

The operator suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center.

This is a developing story.
