Crash involving 7 vehicles closes southbound I-75 lanes in Tampa.

Southbound lanes of Interstate 75 were closed after a series of crashes scattered seven vehicles shoulder to shoulder Friday morning near Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Traffic was routed off the highway at the King Boulevard interchange, also known as State Road 574. after the 9:20 a.m. crash. All lanes were closed from the interchange south beyond State Road 60, according to a real-time state highways map. Some southbound lanes had reopened by 10:45 a.m.

A TransCore Utility truck was stopped on the inside shoulder of I-75 south of the interchange as the driver changed a tire. For unknown reasons, the driver of a passing sport utility vehicle entered the inside shoulder and collided with the truck, the Highway Patrol said.

Other crashes touched off by the initial collision involved a semi-trailer truck, a dump truck, a motorcycle, and two passenger vehicles.

Injuries to those involved were not believed to be life-threatening.
