Crestview woman charged with animal cruelty for drowning roommate’s spider in Ginger Ale

A Crestview woman was charged with animal cruelty on Monday after taking her roommate’s pet jumping spider and drowning it in Ginger Ale, according to an arrest report.

The arrest report states that 43-year-old Ilena Rasmussen texted her roommate and admitted to drowning the jumping spider after the roommate said she could not find her pet spider or its cage.

According to the report, Rasmusen took the $70 spider while Marrero was away from their shared home.

Rasmussen was released from Okaloosa County Jail on Monday.
