Crews quickly contain DeFuniak Springs house fire

Walton County Fire Rescue responded to a home on Dorsey Avenue to assist the City of DeFuniak Springs Fire Department just before 1:00 a.m. on Thursday after a 911 caller reported a house fire.

According to Walton County Fire Rescue, the 911 caller reported the fire started as a grease fire on the stove but quickly spread into the ceiling of the kitchen.

Firefighters arrived to find the fire contained to the kitchen, with flames reaching the attic. Fire crews said they were able to extinguish the fire in two minutes, preventing the flames from spreading throughout the home.

Walton County Fire Rescue says everyone made it out of the home safely, and the American Red Cross was called to help the family.
