Crews from the Greater Naples Fire Rescue District responded to a structure fire on Estey Avenue at around 1 a.m. on Nov. 30.
One woman was trapped inside the home. The configuration of the home made it so all exits were in fire-involved rooms. She attempted to escape through a window; however, the windows were screwed shut and partially blocked by an air conditioning unit.
Crews say that a quick-thinking neighbor heard calls for help, entered the lanai area, and assisted the resident through a small opening above the window unit.
Crews were able to extinguish the fire, and everybody was reported safe.
Greater Naples Fire is reminding residents to never screw their windows shut, as they are a critical secondary means of escape during a fire.
