A bee farm was destroyed in a massive fire on Sunday, the Citrus County Fire Rescue said.
Firefighters said they were called to a large commercial fire on North Winterset Avenue in Crystal River just before 8:30 a.m.
The heat and flames were so intense that they threatened a nearby mobile home, crews said.
When firefighters arrived, they said they found “multiple large propane tanks, numerous drums of unknown contents, compressed gas cylinders, and repeated explosions occurring within the structure.”
Firefighters said they used exposure protection efforts to prevent the fire from spreading to the mobile home.
The honey processing facility’s roof collapsed due to the fire.
The blaze was under control just before 2 p.m. and extinguished before 5:30 p.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Fire rescue crews said the building suffered “catastrophic damage.”
