Daughter identifies city utilities worker killed in lift station incident in New Port Richey

A New Port Richey utilities mechanic who died on the job Monday has been identified by his daughter.

Emergency crews from Pasco County Fire Rescue and the New Port Richey Police Department responded around 1:30 p.m. to a lift station in the area of Bandura Avenue and Ashmore Drive.

Police confirmed that one city public works employee died from “work-related injuries at the site,” while another was treated at the hospital and later released.

Cassidy Greger told 10 Tampa Bay News that her father, Gary, was the worker killed, adding that he typically worked the vacuum truck.

She was told he was down in the well of the lift station when the accident happened and that an electric shock was the main culprit, but that an autopsy still needs to be done.

At the time, Pasco County Fire crews said they were responding to an electrocution call.

Cassidy said her father worked for the city for a couple of years and that she was told by his coworkers that he did nothing wrong. Now grieving, she says she hurts the most for her young son, who was the apple of her father’s eye.

The investigation into the worker’s death is ongoing.
