A Daytona Beach police cruiser struck a 19-year-old skateboarder late Tuesday near the campus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The crash happened around on Clyde Morris Boulevard near Richard Petty Boulevard.
The FHP said the police cruiser was traveling south on Clyde Morris Boulevard and entered the intersection on a “steady green traffic signal.”
The skateboarder was eastbound in a marked crosswalk but failed to yield the right-of-way and was struck by the front of the police SUV, according to troopers.
Video from the scene shows a police SUV with front-end damage and a shoe in the middle of the street.
The skateboarder was taken to Halifax Medical Center with non-life- threatening injuries, the FHP said.
The police officer was not injured.
