A driver of a semi-truck died Thursday morning after rear-ending another semi-truck on Interstate 10 East in Duval County, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Dylan Bryan said in a video posted on X that at about 6 a.m., FHP received a call about the crash, which happened just east of where I-10 meets with Cecil Commerce Center Parkway.

“One tractor trailer was traveling slow in the right lane of Interstate 10 eastbound due to traffic ahead,” Bryan said in the video. “The second tractor trailer, as it approached from the rear, was unable to slow or stop in time to avoid a collision.”

Bryan said as a result of the collision, a fire broke out, as the semi-truck that rear-ended the other, became “engulfed in flames.” The driver of the semi-truck that caught fire was unable to exit the vehicle, and was pronounced dead on scene, according to Bryan.

According to the crash report from FHP, the driver of the semi-truck that was rear-ended is a 45-year-old New York man, while the other driver is also man whose age is unknown.

All eastbound lanes on I-10 near where the crash happened were closed for nearly 10 hours.
