A deadly crash occurred around 1:39 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 75 southbound around mile marker 49 near the Collier and Broward county line.

Traffic has been at a standstill, with a complete road block of all southbound lanes at mile marker 52.

Traffic is currently being diverted through the median for drivers to head back northbound.

A semitrailer is fully blocking the lanes, and the Florida Highway Patrol has confirmed at least one fatality in the crash.

Those looking to travel to the East Coast Saturday morning for the holiday weekend may have to seek alternate routes.

According to FHP, a truck with a boat attached to it on a trailer was traveling south on Interstate 75 at mile marker 49. Another vehicle was traveling south at mile marker 49, painting divider lines on the roadway and on the right shoulder, and was being followed at a slow speed by a Scorpion Road Construction Crash Truck.

The truck failed to slow down and yield to the slower-moving vehicles on the shoulder, and the front of the truck crashed into the rear of the construction crash truck. From the impact, the construction crash truck then crashed into the rear of the vehicle that was painting the divider lines, FHP said.

The driver of the construction crash truck sustained critical injuries and was flown to a nearby hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.

FHP says the crash remains under investigation.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
