A porch snooze turned violent Thursday when police say a Delray Beach man hurled bricks at a garbage collector.
On Thursday morning, a Delray Beach Police Department (DBPD) officer said they responded to a residence south of downtown Delray Beach to reports of a man throwing bricks at a garbage collector.
Police stated that the suspect, 56-year-old DH, was sleeping on a porch when the victim attempted to wake him so he could move him out of the way and collect the trash.
According to the criminal probable cause affidavit, after waking him an argument ensued that became violent.
The victim told police H began picking up bricks and throwing them at him, striking him in the elbow and leaving visible injury. One of the bricks was launched onto the hood of the trash collection vehicle shattering the windshield.
When the victim called the police, H ran southbound on SE 1st Avenue before turning west down SE 3rd Street. After police caught up with H, they reportedly brought the victim to where he was detained, and he confirmed his identity.
Police subsequently booked H on counts of aggravated battery causing bodily harm and criminal mischief over $1,000.
