Deputies: 1 dead, 1 hospitalized after witness opens fire on robbery suspects

An investigation remains active and ongoing following a fatal shooting in Broward County.

A witness who asked not to be identified told Local 10 News he saw multiple men with a ski mask and a gun holding up the cashier at the 7-Eleven off Sterling Road and Southwest 11th Avenue in Dania Beach around 7 p.m. Saturday.

The thieves grabbed the cash register and ran out of the store, which is when the witness said another person who saw this all go down took matters into his own hands.

“My mom’s friend came out and shot them both, one on the sidewalk right where the cash register is,” the witness said.

One of the suspects fell to the ground while holding the cash register in the parking lot, authorities said, with change spilling all over the pavement.

Investigators with the Broward Sheriff’s Office said that suspect was taken to the hospital for treatment while a second suspect got into a car and tried to run over the witness down the street.

In fear for his safety, deputies say the witness then opened fire again, hitting the second suspect several times.

He too was taken to the hospital, where he later died, his car ending up several blocks away.

The driver’s side door of the vehicle was covered in bullet holes, with bloody clothing spotted on the ground nearby.

The identities of those involved in the robbery and shooting have not been released.
