Deputies: 16-year-old critically injured in accidental shooting at Escambia County party

 One 16-year-old is charged and another 16-year-old is critically injured after an accidental shooting at a party in Escambia County early Sunday morning, according to the sheriff’s office.

It happened around 12:05 a.m. near South Highway 99 and Morgan Road in the Walnut Hill area.

Deputies say the teen who discharged the firearm has been charged with grand theft of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a minor. However, he is not charged with the shooting itself, according to the sheriff’s office, as the incident has been ruled accidental.

The teen who suffered a gunshot wound was flown to the hospital in critical condition.

The incident remains under investigation.

Deputies have not released the name of the teen charged.
