A Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputy was hurt in a crash Tuesday afternoon on Florida’s Turnpike in northwest Miami-Dade County, authorities confirmed.

Deputies said the crash occurred on the Turnpike near Northwest 41st Street, before Exit 29, also known as the Homestead Extension.

Sky 10 flew over the scene as at least five lanes were blocked while Road Rangers worked to clear debris from the roadway.

MDSO officials confirmed that one of its deputies was involved in the crash. The deputy, who has not yet been identified, was transported to a hospital in stable condition.

A MDSO spokesperson said the agency’s Traffic Homicide Unit is handling the investigation.

They said the scene is expected to remain active for some time because of the debris and cleanup.

Drivers in the area are urged to move over or slow down when approaching emergency and road service crews.

Authorities have not said how many vehicles were involved or whether anyone else was hospitalized
