A man died and another was injured during a shooting on Sunday morning outside of the Tropicana Bar & Lounge in northwestern Miami-Dade County, police said.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel responded to the crime scene, just at the boundary of the Gladeview and West Little River neighborhoods and declared 45-year-old Travis Sentell Sims dead. A yellow tarp covered his body.
According to Detective Angel Rodriguez, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade Police Department, police officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert at about 5:20 p.m., and found Sims near Northwest 79 Street and 10 Court.
“A short time later, another adult male was dropped off at Hialeah Hospital,” Rodriguez wrote.
Rodriguez reported the wounded man’s condition was stable when Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel transferred him to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.
Miami-Dade police officers blocked Northwest 79 Street in both directions.
A witness who said he was related to the murder victim said the shooting followed a fight at the corner bar. Rodriguez had yet to confirm the murder victim’s identity or the motive for the shooting.
Detectives detectives had been investigating another fatal shooting at about 1 a.m., at Northwest Miami Court and 82 Street, in West Little River. The wounded man died at Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.
No information has been released about the gunman in Sims’ case, however, his cousin told Local 10′s Trent Kelly that the alleged shooter confronted Sims outside the bar as he was leaving and shot him up to 10 times.
Family members also confirmed that Sims is survived by a teenage daughter.
Detectives asked anyone with information about these or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477. Tipsters will receive a reward of up to $5,000 for any information that leads to an arrest.
