A dog was killed Wednesday evening after a large blaze broke out at a home in South Tampa, firefighters said.
Crews with Tampa Fire Rescue arrived at the single-story home on West Euclid Avenue around 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Firefighters said smoke and flames were visible. Photos showed a large plume of smoke ascending into the sky and flames bursting through the home’s roof.
According to officials, crews tried to extinguish the fire from inside the home, but “erupting combustible” made the structure unsafe, and they were forced to move outside and use a different tactic.
Firefighters had the blaze under control in about 30 minutes.
There were no injuries to crew members or any residents — a family of four. However, during a search of the home, firefighters said they learned a dog had died in the fire.
The America Red Cross was contacted to help the family.
Authorities said Wednesday night the cause of the fire was still under investigation.
