A dog died after a home caught fire on Sunday, according to Hernando County Fire Rescue.
Around 3:30 p.m., rescuers were called to the 1500 block of Virginia Lee Circle.
On arrival, they said that they found the fire in the kitchen and pantry area of the home.
No one was home at the time but rescuers did discover a dog inside.
Efforts were made to resuscitate the dog but, according to HCFR, it died shortly after.
The fire was extinguished, and no other injuries were reported.
The home suffered considerable smoke damage and HCFR said the Red Cross is currently assisting the two residents who have been displaced.
