The driver accused of hitting and killing a pedestrian in St. Petersburg last month was found in Michigan, and now faces upgraded charges.
On the night of Jan. 22, 34-year-old MA was speeding down Dali Blvd. when he lost control of his Chrysler minivan. According to the police department, as A neared Bayshore Dr. SE, he crossed into two bike lanes and struck a pedestrian in the median.
The 37-year-old man, identified as PM, was taken to a nearby hospital. St. Pete police said he died from his injuries days later on Jan. 28.
During the initial investigation last month, A was found to be under the influence. He was arrested for charges of DUI causing serious bodily injuries and reckless driving causing serious bodily injury.
A month later, A was found and arrested in Michigan for violation of pre-trial release.
A was extradited back to Pinellas County, where he now facing upgraded changes of vehicular homicide and DUI manslaughter, following the victim’s death.
Police said this remains an ongoing investigation.
