A single-vehicle crash in Escambia County on Saturday night led to the arrest of a 30-year-old Pensacola man, according to FHP.
Troopers say the incident occured on E. Olive Road near Briese Lane and they responded around 9:50 p.m. after T J’J M’s sedan veered off the road and struck a large tree.
M and two children, ages 3 and 7, were in the car, none of whom were wearing seatbelts or properly secured in child safety seats, according to the report.
Troopers say the 7-year-old was thrown into the windshield, suffering serious injuries, while the 3-year-old sustained minor injuries.
Both children were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
M fled the scene on foot but later returned, showing signs of impairment and behaving combatively, accoridng to FHP.
He was arrested and charged with DUI traffic crash with serious bodily injury, hit and run, failure to remain at the scene of a crash with serious injuries, aggravated child abuse, child abuse, and resisting arrest without violence.
M was taken to a local hospital for medical clearance before being transported to the Escambia County Jail.
