Driver caught after hit-and-run kills 64-year-old man crossing Park Avenue: Florida Highway Patrol

A 64-year-old man died Sunday night after he was hit by a pickup truck while he was crossing Park Avenue near Eldridge Loop, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The driver of the pickup truck sped away from the scene but was later found and arrested, troopers said.

FHP said the investigation is ongoing, but they know a red Chevy Silverado was headed north on Park Avenue around 10:39 p.m. Sunday when it hit a pedestrian who was not in a crosswalk.

Troopers said the man, who was from Jacksonville, was walking west across the northbound lanes of Park Avenue when he was hit. He died at the hospital.

The 28-year-old Orange Park man driving the pickup truck was not hurt, troopers said.

Again, the investigation is ongoing.
