The Tampa Police Department is investigating a deadly shooting that led to a man crashing his car into a home early Monday morning.
Officers said they were called to East Osborne Avenue for a shots fired call shortly after 8 a.m., but when they arrived, they found that a car had crashed into an occupied house, hitting a woman who lived there.
According to investigators, the driver had been shot by an unknown suspect, which led to him driving his vehicle into the residence. The suspect fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
“Out of an abundance of caution, Potter Elementary was placed on lockdown but has since been lifted,” a TPD release said.
Detectives said that the driver and the resident were taken to a local hospital, where the driver died of his injuries. The female resident was said to be stable as of this report.
The resident’s husband told 8 On Your Side that his wife was on the front porch when the vehicle crashed into the house. Her family said she broke her arm but is expected to be ok.
TPD detectives are working to gather evidence in the shooting and identify the suspect. If you know anything, call the Tampa Police Non-Emergency Line at 813-231-6130 or submit an anonymous tip via Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay at 1-800-873-TIPS (8477).
