Driver dead after fiery crash in Daytona Beach, police say

A driver died Thursday morning at the scene of a single-vehicle crash in Daytona Beach, according to police.

Officers responded around 10:53 a.m. to the area of South Street and Russell Drive, where a pickup truck had crashed into two power poles and become engulfed in flames, the Daytona Beach Police Department said in a news release.

Daytona Beach Fire Department personnel quickly put out the fire, the release states, adding Florida Power & Light also responded to secure the damaged utility infrastructure.

The identity of the driver was being withheld at the time of this report, police said.

An investigation is ongoing.
