Driver injured; passenger dies after car crashes into power pole in Fort Lauderdale

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Wednesday night.

According to police, a driver lost control of their vehicle and struck a concrete power pole in the 4700 block of Bayview Drive just after 11:45 p.m.

Police said the driver suffered minor injuries and the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to authorities, Florida Power & Light was notified about the damage to the power pole and the power loss to residents in the area.

The investigation remains ongoing. It’s unclear whether the driver will face charges.

The identities of the driver and passenger have not yet been released.
