Driver opens fire through window, strikes 12-year-old in Jacksonville.

A 12-year-old girl was shot walking down the sidewalk in the 6700 block of Buffalo Avenue Thursday afternoon.

The girl and her family member were walking down the street at 5 p.m. Thursday when a car drove by.

The person in the car “opened fire” out the window, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

The 12-year-old was struck once in the lower body. Police say the injuries were not life threatening.

Police believe there was more than one person in the car. The suspect car is believed to be a 4-door gray sedan fled southbound on Buffalo Avenue. 

Police are interviewing witnesses at the scene.
