The driver involved in a deadly Wednesday morning hit-and-run crash that killed a moped rider has turned himself in, the Fort Pierce Police Department (FPPD) indicated in an update.
FPPD posted onto its Facebook page around noon that officers were looking for the driver of a Honda Civic that was involved in the wreck. In a late afternoon update, the police department reported the driver was in custody.
The update did not identify the driver, nor did it include any possible charges the individual may face.
According to the original post, the Civic was heading east on Avenue O when it collided with a moped at the North 23rd Street intersection. The rider of the moped was rushed to HCA Lawnwood where he later died.
