A drug deal for marijuana and vape cartridges took a deadly turn after two men allegedly tried to rob a suspected drug dealer who is now accused of homicide.
On Oct. 11 the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) responded to JFK Medical Center in Atlantis after a man showed up at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the right leg that struck a femoral artery, an arrest affidavit from the sheriff’s office says.
The report says the victim was taken to the Delray Medical Center due to the severity of his injuries.
The arrest affidavit says the investigation led to PBSO detectives speaking with the victim’s mother who said she had not spoken to her son, so they used the Find My iPhone application to track the victim down. The report says the mom and her daughters found the victim’s iPhone near Lantana Road and South Congress Avenue. The affidavit goes on to say when the phone was found it had a “blood-like substance” on it which alarmed her.
The arrest affidavit says through a sweep of the iPhone detectives observed drug transaction text messages where the victim was going to buy $2,500 worth of drugs. The affidavit says the agreement was for one pound of marijuana and vape cartridges.
The investigation led to detectives obtaining security footage from the JFK Medical Center parking lot where they were able to see the victim was dropped off at the hospital by a black Scion xB. The report says detectives were able to identify the driver of the Scion who helped them with the investigation.
PBSO arrest affidavit says the witness, the victim, and two other people drove around unincorporated Lake Worth Beach purchasing and distributing narcotics. The victim reportedly told the driver of the black vehicle to go to a location in the area of Lantana and Jog Road so he could conduct a drug transaction. The report continues that when they arrived on the scene, the victim entered a Mercedes and shortly after a gunshot was heard.
The victim quickly left the Mercedes and jumped into the rear of the black Scion bleeding profusely, the affidavit says.
On Oct. 13 at 4:16 a.m. the victim was pronounced dead at Delray Medical Center.
Through phone records, PBSO detectives were able to determine the accused shooter as Dylan Slone, of Lake Worth.
The arrest report says PBSP investigators used aerial surveillance and physical surveillance to watch him from his home. Slone was seen entering a white shed where was in the process of weighing marijuana for sale and distribution. The report goes on to say tactical agents observed several bags of marijuana packaged for sale and distribution along with drug weighing scales. Agents also found four to five pounds of marijuana, one pound of mushrooms and numerous THC Vape cartridges. Detectives were also able to find a handgun in a bedroom.
Following Slone’s arrest, detectives were able to check his cell phone records which led them to another witness who was at the scene the day of the shooting.
According to the report, the witness told investigators that the victim and another witness who was in the black Scion had tried to rob Slone of marijuana and vape cartridges, which led to Slone shooting the victim.
Slone was taken to Palm Beach County Jail where he was booked on counts of second-degree murder with a firearm, possession of marijuana with the intent to sell while armed, and sale or possession of a substance while armed.
