DUI driver accused of hitting skateboarder, crashing into mailbox

A man is accused of hitting a skateboarder and a mailbox in a Port St. Lucie neighborhood after drinking at Applebee’s.

According to officers with the Port St. Lucie Police Department (PSLPD), RV was driving down SE Melaleuca Blvd. over the weekend when he struck the boy on the skateboard and the mailbox before fleeing.

A witness who stayed on the scene provided officers with the make, model, license plate number, and description of the vehicle.

Officers say they later located V’s beat-up Mazda in a driveway at a home near the 2000 block of SE Mandrake Circle.

The investigation revealed that V, 77, had been drinking alcohol at Applebee’s before the crash.

“Every choice has consequences, and behind every reckless decision, there are lives affected,” PSLPD said in the arrest announcement on Facebook.

Officers say V was subsequently apprehended and booked into the St. Lucie County jail Saturday on counts of DUI, damage to property, hit-and-run, failing to stop for a crash involving injury, and hit-and-run leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage.
