Dump truck erupts in flames on Florida’s Turnpike, snarling traffic

A fiery dump truck crash on Florida’s Turnpike late Friday morning forced the closure of all southbound lanes and reduced northbound traffic to a single lane.

Traffic cameras show a vehicle overturned and engulfed in flames around 10:55 a.m. in the southbound lanes just before Mile Marker 85 in Boynton Beach.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue says the dump truck hauling dirt was the only vehicle involved in the incident, and the driver safely exited the truck and declined transport to the hospital.

Firefighters urge motorists to avoid the turnpike between Atlantic Ave. and Boynton Beach Blvd. The Florida Highway Patrol will reportedly take over the investigation.
