At approximately 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, first responders were dispatched to a rollover crash at the entrance to Lakeshore Mall just north of Vicki Drive in Sebring.

Crews from the Sebring Fire Department and Sebring Police Department arrived at the scene to find a Nissan SUV on its side and a Mustang GT sitting in the intersection with major damage. The debris field caused all three southbound lanes of U.S. 27 to be closed for more than an hour. Highlands County Fire Rescue reported that no occupants were transported from the scene.

The driver of the Mustang told the Highlands News-Sun that the driver of the Nissan was traveling north and attempted to make an unsuccessful left-hand turn across her path. As the SUV entered the intersection, the Mustang collided with the Nissan. The impact caused the Nissan to roll over onto its side.

As the Mustang GT sat in the road, the driver said, another Mustang allegedly struck her vehicle for a second time and fled the scene. That vehicle was reportedly found later the same morning.

Highlands County Fire Rescue Engine 15 and Med 14 remained on scene to assist with cleanup and vehicle stabilization.

The crash remains under investigation by the Sebring Police Department.
