Early morning crash leaves one man dead in Jackson County; Florida Highway Patrol

One person is dead after hitting a deer on a motorcycle.

On Monday, at around 5 a.m., a red 2003 Honda Motorcycle was traveling north on Shady Grove Road approaching the intersection of Harmonica Road, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Reports show a deer attempted to cross the road from east to west at approximately the same time. The motorcyclist hit the deer in the northbound lane where the deer also struck the driver, knocking him off the bike, according to FHP.

Authorities located the motorist in the roadway who was deceased upon arrival. The Florida Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Jackson County Fire Rescue.
