Edgewater man, 27, killed in Volusia County crash, troopers say

A 27-year-old Edgewater man was killed in a crash with an embankment off a road in Volusia County early Thursday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 5 a.m. where Edgewater Canal Road meets Massey Road, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the man was driving a 2009 Toyota Corolla southbound on Edgewater Canal Road when he continued traveling through the intersection with Massey Road, leaving the roadway south and hitting an embankment on the south shoulder of the intersection.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said, adding he was not wearing a seat belt during the crash.

FHP is still investigating.
