An 80-year-old man died on Monday afternoon after his SUV crashed into a tree in southwest Ocala.
At around 1:15 p.m., the elderly man was traveling southbound on SW 27th Avenue, near the intersection of SW 53rd Street, according to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report.
For reasons that are unknown, FHP stated that the SUV proceeded to leave the roadway before traveling onto a grass ditch.
Moments later, the SUV collided with a tree.
The driver and sole occupant of the SUV sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The report stated that the driver was from Ocala. His name was not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
