Elderly man dies in condo fire on Jacksonville’s Southside: JFRD

An elderly man died Friday morning in a fire at a condo complex on Jacksonville’s Southside, firefighters said.

The fire broke out shortly before 4 a.m. at the Lakecrest Condominiums on Belle Rive Boulevard, just east of Southside Boulevard.

The fire affected three condos, and the elderly man was found dead in an upper unit, according to Jacksonville Fire and Rescue.

JFRD said at least 70 firefighters responded to the scene and were able to put the fire out within an hour.

Crews were still monitoring hotspots around 6 a.m.

No other injuries were reported.

The fire is under investigation.
