Elderly woman loses life in Boynton Beach crash after making left turn on red light

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A Boynton Beach crash claimed the life of a 75-year-old driver after he allegedly made an ill-fated left turn at a red light.

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) crash report, the Toyota Camry was traveling eastbound on Boynton Beach Boulevard when the driver attempted an improper left turn onto Hagen Ranch Road while the traffic signal was red.

PBSO said that simultaneously, a Cadillac was moving westbound in the center lane of Boynton Beach Boulevard.

The report states that the two vehicles collided when the front right side of the Toyota struck the front of the Cadillac. The impact reportedly caused both vehicles to rotate and come to a stop within the intersection.

Before coming to a complete halt, the Toyota also hit the front of a Chevrolet that had been waiting in the turning lane of Hagen Ranch Road, per PBSO.

Officials reportedly transported the driver of the Toyota, Linda Zitofsky, to Delray Medical Center, where she later died from injuries from the crash.

The Cadillac driver and three of its passengers were also transported with minor injuries.
