Two people were killed when a dispute at a bar in southwest Miami-Dade ended in gunfire Sunday night, according to authorities.
It happened around 9 p.m. at Glades Club, located at 18401 Southwest 256th Street, in the agricultural area known as Redland.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said there was a dispute between people in the establishment when a gunman shot an employee and a patron. Authorities have not named the victims, but said they did not survive.
A friend identified one of the victims as MH.
“It’s unbelievable that it happened to him,” friend Nicole Terrell said. “We’re just driving by to see what had happened because we’ve been up all night upset so, just praying for his family.”
A third man was also shot, but that wound was self-inflicted “during the chaos” as the man tried to escape the gunfire, MDSO said.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Central Dispatch said that third person was rushed to the hospital as a trauma alert. Video of the aftermath showed a rescue helicopter at the scene.
Authorities said the subject is in custody, but their identity was not immediately released.
A member of the band Airplane Mode said they were playing in the bar when there was an argument over a spilled drink.
“We were playing and apparently a fight broke out, and then the owner of the place kicked out the guys that were fighting, and one of them apparently went to his car, grabbed a gun, come back in and started shooting,” C Q said.
Q said earlier in the night, the shooter had bought him a drink, and he hadn’t noticed anything unusual about him.
“He seemed normal, he’d come and ask for a song, we’d play a song for him, and he tipped us and bought me a drink,” Q said. “In the beginning, early in the evening, he was just another customer, it was so crazy.”
The investigation remained active as of Monday morning.
