More than 20 units responded to a warehouse fire in West Pensacola Monday night.
The fire started around a motor home parked beside the warehouse. Crews were called out to the scene around 6:15 p.m.
The fire happened at BGS Marine Sales, right off Navy Boulevard. It’s a company that sells and repairs boats. The company has been operating in this building for the last three years, serving the Gulf Coast since 2017.
One of the four co-owners says tools and nine boats inside the warehouse were burned. Three boats outside of the building burned as well. All 18 of their employees were not on site. No injuries have been reported.
The main concern when fighting this fire: fuel and gasoline. Crews worked to keep the fuel from spreading out of the boats for several hours.
WEAR News spoke with one co-owner, who got the call on his way back from picking up a boat in Louisiana.
“Freak accident, we don’t know what the root cause was but the main shop building is totally destroyed. The contents are destroyed also,” said BGS Marine Sales President and CEO DB. “… Everything burnt down. It was very intense fire. The building is warped. The roof caved in. But we are preparing to open up tomorrow… It’s tough, I’ll tell you that it’s tough. There’s a lot invested in there. That’s about all I can say.”
B says this is a $2.7 million facility.
First responders described this as a “second alarm fire” — meaning two stations were called in. Once on site, additional units were dispatched.
Escambia County Fire Rescue, the Pensacola Fire Department and Gulf Coast Emergency Services with Pensacola NAS all responded.
Exactly what sparked the blaze near the motor home is still unknown. The owners say on Tuesday they’ll come up with a plan to continue working on boats at the warehouse while they rebuild.
