Woman dead after SUV hits tree, flips on I-4 with 5 people inside

Westbound Interstate 4 is seeing heavy backups in Volusia County at noon Monday as crews respond to a fatal crash that left a woman dead.

The crash happened at 10:49 a.m. at mile marker 125 in Daytona Beach, Florida Highway Patrol said.

FHP said a Ford Expedition was traveling westbound on I-4 when it ran off the roadway and onto the median.

As a result, the vehicle struck a tree and overturned several times.

FHP said the driver and three passengers in the vehicle were transported to Halifax Health Medical Center with serious injuries.

A fourth passenger, an adult female, was pronounced deceased on scene.

This crash remains under investigation, FHP said.
