Fatal crash in Clay County leaves one dead, vehicle overturned

A man was killed in a head-on collision in Clay County Sunday morning.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say the victim, a 34-year-old man from Starke, was traveling northbound on State Road 21 near the intersection of Santa Clara Avenue around 4:30 a.m.

The car veered to the left, entering the northbound lanes and hitting the left driver side of another vehicle. The car came to final rest on the right grass shoulder, just north of the accident.

The accident left the second vehicle, a pickup truck, overturned on its right side in the southbound shoulder. The driver, a 29-year-old male from Orange Park, was not injured.

Officials say the victim was not wearing a seatbelt, but the driver of the second vehicle was.
