Polk County Fire Rescue (PCFR) responded to a fatal structure fire off Ralph Road in Lakeland.
On March 3, firefighters were dispatched to the home at 9:48 a.m. and arrived two minutes later. When crews reached the scene, they found the fire had spread to multiple rooms.
One person was found outside the home and transported to a local hospital. Firefighters began a search of the home after being told someone else was still inside.
During the search, crews located a deceased victim inside.
The fire was brought under control at 10:29 a.m.
One firefighter sustained minor injuries while battling the fire, according to PCFR.
“These scenes are difficult for everyone involved. Our crews moved quickly to put out the fire and locate any individuals still inside the home,” said Fire Chief Shawn Smith. “We offer our condolences to the victim’s family and hope for a quick recovery for the individual transported from the scene.”
The Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office and Polk County Sheriff’s Office are investigating.
